Description

Designed for the aesthetic and surgical market, Obagi products penetrate the deepest layers of skin to bring change in men’s and women's skin, giving a whole new meaning to beauty within. The company maintains its position as top beauty provider through several lines in the Obagi system: Obagi Nu-Derm, Blue Peel (a TCA peeling), Clenziderm, Obagi C-Rx, Condition and Enhance, and ELASTIderm.

The skin damages by the bad influences as sun light (photodamaging), smoking and environmental pollution (chemical damaging). The most common effect is the first one and we will explane this here.

On a daily basis our skin is exposed to UVA and UVB rays from the sun.  Even stepping outside our home, office, and car will expose our skin to these harmful rays.  Their effect is known to cause not only skin cancer but delayed growth in healthy skin.  Old skin becomes more difficult to remove and slough off.  Elastin and Collagen break down, causing wrinkles and fine lines to form in between the layers of old, dead skin.  The more the skin is exposed to the sun's rays without treatment, the deeper the wrinkles become and the darker hyperpigmentation becomes.

Skin Transformation

With the Nu-Derm system, skin is rejuvenated and revitalized.  Cellular turnover is increased causing faster regeneration by constantly pushing new,fresh skin cells to the surface.  The cellular structure under the surface is made uniform causing even toned and smooth skin to be brought forward.  Melanin, which causes pigmented skin (aging spots and freckles), is controlled so that the skin tone becomes more even.  Lastly, with Nu-Derm,  Collagen is produced causing stronger, firmer skin with less fine lines and wrinkles.

Clinical Study

According to the most recent study of over 300 women, Obagi Nu-Derm treatment showed the greatest improvement in 12 weeks for fine lines and photodamaged skin compared to stand alone products.  Nu-Derm has been clinically proven to reduce, by 3x the power, the appearance of hyperpigmented, mottled, sallow skin than a hydroquinone treatment only, and there is 6x the improvement in fine lines and wrinkles than other over-the-counter-products (see the before and after pictures).

Skin Phases

Obagi describes four distinctive phases that the skin will go through as it is be transformed and revitalized with the Nu-Derm skin care products.  With daily use as instructed by your personal medical advisor, results will start to be seen in as little as four weeks.

Phase I, "Out With the Old":  Phase one begins the moment the Obagi  Cleansing system is used till up to 6 weeks after.  Nu-Derm begins penetrating deep into the skin cells to begin a transformation with in to bring fresh cells to the surface.  Old and dead skin cells are removed from the outer surface of the skin, to allow skin to regain its youthful glow and fullness.  In Phase I redness, itching, dryness does and can occur while skin begins adapting to the new system.

Expect: Pigmented cells are being controlled so that a more even tone is given.

Phase II, "In With the New":  Because skin has begun adjusting to the Nu-Derm system,  new cells and collagen are being produced and melanin is distributing more evenly through pigmented cells.  Phase II lasts from 7 weeks till 12 weeks.

Expect:  As new cells are formed, a smoother, softer and more even toned appearance is given.

Phase III, "Healthy Glow":  . Skin Cells and collagen are still in the process of transformation and regeneration during this phase.  However, skin becomes tighter, firmer, and smoother.  Fine lines and wrinkles begin to fade and a overall youthful glow is given to the skin.  This phase lasts from 12 weeks till 18 weeks

So patience is an important factor, as most people already want to see results after a couple of days. Because Obagi Nu-Derm works from the cause of your skin problem this definitely will take time, but the result afterwards is also more satisfying.
